8 - the Svartisen Glacier

The weather is still surprisingly warm and sunny. It was sort of surreal to see a glacier on such a warm day. Obviously the weather isn't very much like that all of the time there ;).

7 - Tromso

The city of Tromso as seen from the viewpoint above the cable car.

After only a few days I noticed that I'm basically always using the same colors when depicting nature. So I guess I'll need to add more dark warm greens/browns and grays to my watercolor pocket box.

6 - The North Cape

A very stormy day, no rain, but heavy winds.
It was very cold up there, so I just took a photo and sketched later from the photograph.
At first I was disappointed that the place was so crowded with people and there was absolutely no way of taking a pictures without having at least two dozen persons in the picture, but that was when I realized, that I needed to sketch them, too, because they are such an important part of that scene.

By the way, that photo was taken at about 10:30 pm … I'm wondering whether there is a time at night, when the place is not so crowded. I guess as soon as the dark half of the year is approaching the tourists will become fewer in this region.

5 - crossing the Arctic Circle

Surprisingly the weather here is nicer and sunnier than farther south. The sea is also nice and calm and it was overall a very sunny and pleasant day.

4 - fjords

If in doubt draw some fjords.

I still have some trouble to create skies in watercolor. However; I at least noticed that I'm getting slowly better at it :).

3 - the vesteralen

A scene from the Vesteralen.

Note to myself: from tomorrow on, I'm going to take photos of my painting. The scanner does not do me any favor as it seriously picks up wrong colors and enhances the contrast in a very unpleasant way. :/

2 - a tea in the morning

I started a sketchbook journal two weeks ago. My aim is to do a little sketch / a little painting each day. I don't aim at producing masterpieces yet, I just want to get into the habit of sketching every day.

Also I like sketching the rough lines with my pen. It forces me to concentrate more, as I cannot go back and undo the lines. The lines look often very wonky, but as someone pointed out, it's probably the special charm of these pieces ;).
