28 - Negatives

24 - everything flows

Okay, so this is going to be tougher than expected. As you can see this is basically the same girl as three days ago, only this time painted with the Kolinsky brush. I do have zero and I mean z.e.r.o. control over it.
Yet.
Everything flows wherever it wants. It felt like being an absolute beginner again and I'd so love to continue painting with my trusted watertankbrush instead, but I mustn't do that. I'll continue with the Kolinsky for one more weak and if I don't get used to it better by the end of next week, I'll get back to my former favorite brush.

23 - my precious

22 - what was I thinking

20 - another digital one

I also did this one. Again digitally (iPad / ArtRage). I don't particularly like it, but I guess at least I kept on painting something, right?!

19

Something digital for a change. (I didn't have my watercolors with me that day)
But in all honesty, I really prefer traditional art over digital art.

18

Painted this on location in less than 5 minutes with a very limited palette.
At first I thought it was horrid, but now, after a couple of hours I don't think that it's that bad anymore.

17 - a fruity breakfast revised

I've read a book on watercolors today where the teacher advised the students to work very transparent, when working in watercolors. So I tried to repaint yesterday's picture in more transparent colors, avoiding browns, dark colors and of course the ink.

16 - a fruity breakfast

I was in a hurry today. So the only painting is one of my breakfast.

14 - a statue in Kiel

For the last couple of days I tried to work less with ink and more with watercolors only. I think my two sketchbooks might not provide me with the best of papers for this task, so upon recommendation I'll try another sketchbook with Montval paper soon. However until then I'll need to finish these two off. With a painting every day this should go fairly fast.

13 - Geirangerfjord

This was actually fun.

Please excuse the smudge in the lower right corner. I've put down some personal notes there that I didn't want to post here.

12 - Der Musikpavillon in Bergen

I tried a more loose technique for this painting, without any preliminary sketches. I don't know whether I love or hate it. What I did notice though is that unlike in the beginning, when I first started painting with watercolors, I don't mind the colors bleeding into each other anymore.

11 - Houses in Bergen

Some Houses in Bergen. It's very unusual for me to see so many differently painted houses, but Norway is full of it. Especially the color dark red is very common. However, unlike most houses in Norway these ones were built out of stones and not wood, which makes them a little more special.

10 - food

And back to the travel book:  here is some food, more precisely these were desserts.
I love drawing good, I don't know why, I guess I enjoy that it is so full of color.

8 - the Svartisen Glacier

The weather is still surprisingly warm and sunny. It was sort of surreal to see a glacier on such a warm day. Obviously the weather isn't very much like that all of the time there ;).

7 - Tromso

The city of Tromso as seen from the viewpoint above the cable car.

After only a few days I noticed that I'm basically always using the same colors when depicting nature. So I guess I'll need to add more dark warm greens/browns and grays to my watercolor pocket box.

6 - The North Cape

A very stormy day, no rain, but heavy winds.
It was very cold up there, so I just took a photo and sketched later from the photograph.
At first I was disappointed that the place was so crowded with people and there was absolutely no way of taking a pictures without having at least two dozen persons in the picture, but that was when I realized, that I needed to sketch them, too, because they are such an important part of that scene.

By the way, that photo was taken at about 10:30 pm … I'm wondering whether there is a time at night, when the place is not so crowded. I guess as soon as the dark half of the year is approaching the tourists will become fewer in this region.

5 - crossing the Arctic Circle

Surprisingly the weather here is nicer and sunnier than farther south. The sea is also nice and calm and it was overall a very sunny and pleasant day.

4 - fjords

If in doubt draw some fjords.

I still have some trouble to create skies in watercolor. However; I at least noticed that I'm getting slowly better at it :).

3 - the vesteralen

A scene from the Vesteralen.

Note to myself: from tomorrow on, I'm going to take photos of my painting. The scanner does not do me any favor as it seriously picks up wrong colors and enhances the contrast in a very unpleasant way. :/

2 - a tea in the morning

I started a sketchbook journal two weeks ago. My aim is to do a little sketch / a little painting each day. I don't aim at producing masterpieces yet, I just want to get into the habit of sketching every day.

Also I like sketching the rough lines with my pen. It forces me to concentrate more, as I cannot go back and undo the lines. The lines look often very wonky, but as someone pointed out, it's probably the special charm of these pieces ;).

1 - the cat

Once and for all, I do have to finish at least one of those 120 challenges in time. So I'll give it a go with a more simple challenge: a 15 to 20 minute watercolor sketch. We'll see how this is going. xD
